This Remuera townhouse is clad in cedar boards, which were previously stained. Initially, the homeowner wanted to re-stain the cedar boards as this was the look they were familiar with. However, re-staining meant that the homeowners would be faced with significant scaffolding costs every two to three years (due to the expected lifespan of stained exteriors).
After several discussions between our paint supplier, the homeowners and us, the homeowners decided to paint the cedar boards instead.
Because of the homeowners’ desire for a black house, a bespoke preparation and painting programme was developed to optimise the longevity of the dark paint finish. The outcome? A black beauty right in the heart of Remuera.
"We obtained several quotes for the work and you will be interested to know that we accepted yours even though it was higher. The reason for this was it was evident to us that you understood the nature of the underlying wood surfaces, previous paint applications and properly identified decaying wood in a dozen window frames that needed remediation before the work could begin. If this had not been identified we would have been back for further painting in a few short years.
We were also appreciative of the professional manner in which you approached the quotation process, and monitored progress with the work, maintaining good communication at all times. Your painters were excellent and maintained a high commitment to the job. We were not faced with unexpected absences.
You also undertook some interior work, repainting some surfaces that were in much need of refreshing, including ceilings, some walls, door frames, skirtings and other surfaces, all to a high standard.
The result is an excellent paint surface throughout and we are very pleased. We were also very impressed by the fact that your company had achieved a number of professional association awards, recognition that your peers also appreciate the quality of your work."
