It was rewarding to be invited by our longstanding clients to carry out this wonderful project for them, as it is the fourth time we have collaborated.

This home, next to Takapuna Beach, was originally an arts and crafts cottage. Craving more space, the homeowners added an extension, including a garage, kitchen, butler’s pantry, dining area and a deck with a fireplace.

A separate shed was also built to house the boat, however that has since been appropriated as a man cave.

Though the extension is modern, by replicating the materials and substrates of the original cottage the outcome is a seamless blend of old and new.

The homeowners have invested in high end materials for this build. The roof, spouting and downpipes are copper and there is under-floor heating in the garage.

To connect the extension with the original cottage’s roughcast exterior, the interior walls have been painted in stone paint. The exposed steel trusses have also been painted.
